Sony is consolidating the more profitable sides of its various gaming divisions into a brand new company called Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). On April 1st, Sony Computer Entertainment’s current president and CEO Andrew House, will become the leader of this new division and the head office will be located in San Mateo, California.
SIE will combine Sony’s Hardware and Software units, as well as PlayStation Network Services run by Sony Network Entertainment International, in a sole location in the U.S. Local divisions of the company will still be present in both Tokyo and London. “By integrating the strengths of PlayStation’s hardware, software, content and network operations, SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation business,” writes House in a statement sent to MobileSyrup. “Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers’ imaginations and lead the market. We will work hard to maximize corporate value by coordinating global business operations across San Mateo, Tokyo, and London by leveraging local expertise.”
SIE will also be in charge of the research and development of future PlayStation software and hardware. President od Sony’s Worldwide studios Shuhei Yoshida’s position has not changed and he will now report directly to Shawn Layden, the president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA).
